So this is a bit about me...
I have been teaching mathematics for a total of 6 years in a few different locations. Originally from Los Angeles, California, I bring plenty of experience to Alpharetta High School. My career began as a substitute teacher in Lansdowne, Pennsylvania in 2005--a small town adjacent to Philadelphia. After a number of months as a substitute at the same school, the administration recommended that I apply as a full-time math teacher. After doing so, and being offered the position, I became hooked to teaching, and the rest is history. Because of the many disparities that I saw, I wanted to dig a little deeper to figure out why so many kids did not value education, when in many cases, education was the only thing that would give them a chance at a decent life. As a result of wanting to find out why this was happening; and in an effort to try and stop this behavior, I applied to and attended Harvard University for graduate school with the hope of changing the world! As naive as I was at the time, the same desire to help kids achieve remains with me today.
After graduate school, I returned to Philadelphia, and taught for 2 years at Northeast High School (NHS) and worked as an adjunct mathematics professor at the Community College of Philadelphia. During my time at NHS, I sponsored the first ever high school chapter of the Muslim Students Association (MSA) in the region, and started the Black Success Academy (BSA)--an organization created to assist in promoting academic success and encourge applying to top colleges and universities in the country. In 2009, my wife, my daughter and I relocated to the Atlanta area for a better quality of life, and so far, it has been great! My first 2 years in Georgia, I worked at Stephenson High School, in Stone Mountain. Living in Duluth and commuting to Stone Mountain became burdensome, so I always wanted to work closer to home. Fortunately, I was offered a math position at AHS. Now, I have the privilege to work at a very awesome school, and look forward to a very awesome 2012-2013 school year at AHS!
